University libraries are considered one of the main key elements of the university for what libraries have contributed positively to serve the three central objectives of the university, learning, academic research, and community service. Assuredly, the success of universities in acknowledgement at the national academy and international scale is conditional on the success of its libraries in achieving their mission. The visit of the National Centre for Assessment and Academic Accreditation in April 2021 reflected the importance of libraries as one of the main substantial elements of the institutional accreditation of the university, as the libraries took more than 30% of the time allocated for the program of visiting to complete the institutional accreditation requirements.
In 1428 AH, the establishment of the Deanship of Libraries Affairs coincides with the establishment of the Northern Border University after King Abdullah bin Abdul-Aziz Al Saud issued the royal decree, may Allah have mercy on him. Therefore, the deanship's vision, mission, and objectives are the university's e vision, mission, and objective y based on the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.
The Deanship’s vision aspires to be pioneering and innovative in supporting the education process, conducting research in the university, and serving the community of the northern frontier region according to domestic and international quality standards.
The mission states the effective contribution to providing an information environment that supports academic programs. Moreover, it encourages scientific research and innovation. Finally, it serves the community by providing many services and information resources that meet the beneficiaries’ needs to achieve the university’s vision and mission.
The Deanship always strives to keep up with the latest information and library technologies. Since its establishment, the university libraries have been approved to manage their equipment and facilities the access using the most current and powerful automatic system to manage libraries called the ‘Symphony system’. Besides that, it uses in some of the university libraries’ Radio-frequency identification (RFID), and shortly, it will be used in the rest of the university libraries.
